Home Theater · Westchester & Fairfield County

The room where movie night happens.

Not a dedicated cinema. The room your family already uses, made properly good at one more thing.

The decisions that make the room work.

Most people who ask us about a home theater are describing a media room, and that is usually the better answer for how they actually live. A dedicated theater is a room with one job. A media room is the Friday film, the Sunday game and a show before bed, with a picture that still looks right at four in the afternoon.

So we start with how the room gets used rather than with a product list. A screen sized to the distance people genuinely sit at, speakers placed for the seats instead of the walls, and enough light control that the picture holds up without turning the room into a cave you would not sit in otherwise.

Control comes down to one press. If a houseguest cannot start a film without being taught, we are not finished.

Decisions

The three that shape a project like this.

Whether the room has another job

A room that is a playroom on Sunday morning and a cinema on Friday night is designed differently from one that only ever does the second. Deciding which you are building governs the screen, the seating and the light.

Screen sized to where people actually sit

Not to the wall, and not to the largest number the budget allows. A screen too big for the throw is worse than one a size down, and it is the most common thing we are called in to correct.

Speakers placed to the seat

Surround sound is placement before it is equipment. Speakers positioned to the room's geometry rather than to the nearest joist is most of the difference between a room that sounds expensive and one that cost a lot.
