Theaters and media rooms, built for the way you actually watch.

A great theater is really three projects at once: the seating, the room, and the acoustics. We do not hand any of them to a stranger.

Dedicated theater, or a media room?

We are a certified partner of CinemaTech, the firm behind some of the most photographed cinema rooms in the country, and their seating is on the floor of our Armonk showroom. Sit in it, feel the leather, look at the finishes, and decide in person rather than from a swatch card.

Then we ask the question that actually shapes the budget: dedicated theater or media room? A dedicated theater is a room with one job, tiered seating, controlled light, a screen sized to the throw and surround sound placed to the seat, not to the wall. A media room is the Friday film, the Sunday game and a show before bed, with a picture that still looks right at four in the afternoon. One is not a lesser version of the other. Tell us how you use the space and we will tell you which one you are describing.

Our own crew runs the wire, mounts the equipment, programs the remotes and calibrates the sound. When something acts up two years later, you call the same number and we answer.

How we work

  1. 01

    Sit in the showroom

CinemaTech seating, a screen and a system, in Armonk. Forty minutes here saves a month of guessing from a swatch card.

  2. 02

    Decide the room

Dedicated theater or media room, and in which room of the house. We measure throw, sightlines and where the sound has to go.

  3. 03

    Design

Screen size, projector or display, speaker positions, acoustic treatment, seating layout, lighting scenes. On paper, with your architect or designer if there is one.

  4. 04

    Build

Our own crew runs the wire, treats the room, mounts the equipment and sets the seats. If the walls are open, it goes in with the framer.

  5. 05

    Calibrate

Picture and sound measured and set to the room and the seat, not to a factory default. Then the remote, then the family tutorial.

The rest of the house

The theater is one room. The music does not have to stay in it.

The same system that runs the theater runs music through the house, so a film in the media room and a record in the kitchen are two taps on one app. For the room where you only listen, there is Hi-Fi.

  • Music in every room, on the same app as the theater
  • The turntable, the streamer and the television as sources anywhere
  • A dedicated listening room, when you want one
  • All of it on Savant, with the lights and the shades

At a glance

Theater or media room

A dedicated room with one job, or the family room that has to be three things. We will tell you which one you are describing.

CinemaTech seating

On the floor of our Armonk showroom. Sit in it before you choose it.

Sized to the seat

The screen sized to where people sit and the speakers placed to the seat, not the wall. The most common thing we are called in to correct.

Light, controlled

Shades, lighting and the starlight ceiling on one button, so Film means film.

The room itself

Acoustic treatment, risers, a door that seals. Most of what makes a theater sound right is not the equipment.

One remote

Savant, with the lights, shades and sources on it. A guest can start a film without a lesson.

With CinemaTech

What goes into a room like this

A dedicated CinemaTech home theater with tiered seating facing the screen

The dedicated theater

A room with one job. Tiered seats, treated walls, light you control, and a screen sized to where you actually sit. Worth doing if you watch films properly.

A CinemaTech media room with a large sectional, bookshelves and daylight

The media room

The room you already use, with a picture that still looks right at four in the afternoon. Shades and lights drop it into movie mode on one button.

Seats that turn

CinemaTech's motorized swivel chairs face the screen for the film and face the room for everything else. Built to order, in the leather you pick, with the mechanism hidden inside.

A ceiling full of stars

Fiber-optic points set into the ceiling that fade up as the lights come down. It is the detail people describe to their friends afterwards.

Acoustic wall treatment built into the panelling of a CinemaTech room

Sound that stays in the room

Isolation and treatment calculated for your room rather than guessed at, so it is full inside and quiet in the hallway. The panels are part of the design, not stuck on afterwards.

Light on a scene

Sconces, cove light and step lighting on one press. The room lowers itself for the film and comes back up when the credits roll.

Common questions

What people ask us about home theater.

Should we build a dedicated theater or a media room?
It depends on whether the room has another job. A dedicated theater is light-controlled and built around the screen, with tiered seating and treated walls. A media room has to look right at four in the afternoon and still become a cinema at nine. Tell us how the room gets used and we will tell you which one you are describing.
How big does the room need to be?
There is no single number. What matters is the throw to the screen, enough depth for seating that sees it properly, and walls that can be treated for sound. We size the screen and the seating to your room rather than asking your room to match a specification.
Can you do this in a finished basement?
Often, yes, and a good share of our theater work is exactly that. Where walls cannot be opened we plan around it. We will walk the room and tell you honestly which parts are straightforward and which are going to be a fight before you commit to anything.
Can we see one before we buy?
Yes. CinemaTech seating is on the floor at our Armonk showroom. Sitting in it and looking at the finishes answers more than a swatch card will, and it is a ten-minute visit.
Who does the work?
Our own crew. We run the wire, mount the equipment, program the remotes and calibrate the sound, and we sit with the family afterwards until everyone can use it. Nothing is handed to a subcontractor.
What happens if something stops working?
You call the same number you called at the start. Our own crew did the work, so the people who come back are the people who were here, and equipment claims under a manufacturer's warranty are ours to chase rather than yours.
“Westchester A/V installed our theater and entire home audio/video setup. It is a large and complicated installation and their work was professional. They have continued to meet all our needs over the five years we have been using them. I have continued to recommend them to friends and family.”

Afterwards

Looked after by the people who installed it.

Our own crew does the work, so the number you call afterwards is the same one you called at the start. Equipment carries its manufacturer's warranty and we handle those claims rather than handing you a phone number. A service plan adds monitoring, next-business-day response and scheduled visits on top.
