Why Savant

Why most of our houses run on one platform.

We are not required to use it and we do not use it for everything. But when a whole house has to behave like one system rather than nine, this is usually how we get there.

One app, not a drawer full of them

Most houses arrive at us with five or six apps and a person in the family who is the only one who knows which is which. Savant puts lighting, music, heating and shades behind a single interface, so the question stops being which app and becomes which room.

Scenes, not switches

Nobody wants to adjust eight things to watch a film. A scene sets the lights, the shades, the source and the volume in one press, and the useful ones get used dozens of times a week without anybody thinking of them as automation.

It keeps working when the internet does not

This matters more here than the sales literature suggests. Processing happens in the house, not in a data centre, so when the line goes down in a storm the lights, the heating and the keypads carry on. Systems that depend on the cloud pick that moment to stop.

It starts smaller than people think

A common first project is two or three rooms and the network underneath them. The platform is the same whether it runs four loads or four hundred, so phasing over several years does not mean replacing what you started with.

The part the manufacturer will not tell you

The platform is the easy half. The dealer is the half that decides whether you like it.

Two houses can run identical equipment and feel completely different to live in. The difference is in the work nobody sees: how the loads were grouped, whether the scenes match how the family actually uses the rooms, whether the keypad by the door says something useful, and whether anyone came back six months later to change the three things that turned out to be wrong.

That is also the honest reason a bad installation of a good platform is worse than the reverse. The equipment is rarely the problem we are called in to fix.

For what it is worth as a proxy, we are a Savant Platinum Elite dealer, which is Savant's top tier and is held by a small number of integrators, and our owner is a Savant Ambassador with a seat on the Savant Advisory Council. None of that is a guarantee by itself and we would rather be judged on the work. It does mean the people programming your house are certified across the whole platform, and that we see what is coming before it ships.

Your house on Savant

Want to see what one app for the whole house would mean in yours?

Ask, and we will walk it through room by room. The calculator gives a planning range if you want a number first.

When we would use something else

The lighting is the whole project

If a house wants proper lighting control and very little else, we will often specify Lutron on its own. The dimming is better, the keypads are the nicest to live with, and there is no sense buying a whole-house platform to run one discipline.

Everything has to be hard-wired

Savant runs wired where it matters, with the processor, lighting panels and audio on the network rather than on a radio, and we design it that way on new construction. If a job genuinely calls for a platform we do not sell, we will say so at the first meeting rather than sell you the wrong one.

You only want music, and you want it simple

Sonos, and we will say so. If the brief is music in five rooms and nothing else, a control platform is an expensive way to press play.

You already own something that works

Then we are more likely to fix and extend it than replace it. Ripping out a functioning system to standardise on ours is good for us and bad for you, and we would rather tell you that at the first visit.

Start a project

Tell us about the space. We'll come out and give you a straightforward plan.

The consultation is complimentary and it starts with a walkthrough or a set of drawings. You will leave it knowing what is realistic in your house, what it costs, and what can wait until phase two.

We answer within one business day. No mailing list, no drip campaign.
