Lighting Control · Westchester & Fairfield County

One keypad, engraved in plain English, and the room is ready.

Movie night, dinner for two, a full house on a Saturday, Sunday breakfast with the paper. Same rooms, four different lighting jobs, and a wall of switches that cannot tell the difference.

Good lighting is layers, and a way to control them.

A room lit by one row of downlights is lit, in the way a parking garage is lit. A room that feels right has layers: ambient light from the ceiling or a cove, task light where somebody reads or cooks, accent light on the painting and the stone, and a lamp or two. Lighting control is what lets those layers be set once, named, and brought back with one press. Without it, a well-designed scheme is a dozen dimmers nobody touches.

We build on two makers and we are certified on both. Lutron, HomeWorks for a whole house and RadioRA 3 for a room or a floor, because the dimming is quiet, the keypads are the nicest things on the wall, and it has run reliably in houses here for thirty years. Savant, where the house already runs on Savant, because its own lighting and keypads live inside the same system as the music, the climate and the shades, with one app and one keypad for all of it. We fit whichever suits the house, and often both. The keypad is the part you live with, so we spend time on it: Palladiom in glass or brushed metal, Alisse milled from solid brass with a halo of light at each button, Sunnata in a satin finish that disappears into a painted wall, and a Pico remote where you want control without a wall. Engraved with the scenes you actually use, in the finish your designer chose.

Fixtures matter as much as the controls, and we work with your lighting designer or electrician on them while the plan is still on paper: beam angles for the art, warm-dim lamps that go amber as they dim, recessed fixtures with remote drivers so the ceiling stays quiet. Where the house wants it, tunable white follows the day, cooler and brighter at noon and warm and low by nine, on a schedule nobody has to set.

Outside, the system handles what nobody wants to think about. Path lights, the drive and the entry come on with the astronomic clock and shift with the seasons. Away for two weeks, the house replays a fortnight of your own habits so it reads as lived in, and a bedside keypad brings every exterior fixture to full in one press.

In new construction we sit down with the electrician before the wiring plan is final, which costs nothing and saves a great deal. In a finished house, Lutron's wireless dimmers give you the whole system without opening a wall: the bank of switches comes down, a single keypad goes up, and no new wire enters the room.

Lutron and Savant

Two ways to do it. We do both.

Most of the lighting we install is one of these two, and the honest answer to which one is: it depends on the house. Switch between them to see what each is, and what we reach for it for.

Lutron

The dimming everyone else is measured against.

Thirty years of houses here run on it, and it still does the fundamentals better than anything: silent dimming all the way down, keypads that belong on a wall, and a processor that just runs. HomeWorks for a whole house, RadioRA 3 for a floor or a renovation that will grow.

  • Palladiom, Alisse and Sunnata keypads, engraved to the house
  • Lutron shades on the same keypad and the same clock
  • Sits inside a Savant system without fuss when the house wants both
  • The right call for a Lutron-only house, a renovation, or a lighting-first project

Which one is yours? Usually the house decides: what is already in it, how much is being renovated, and whether lighting is the project or part of one. We will tell you plainly in the first conversation, and a Lutron house can carry a Savant room, or the reverse, without anyone noticing the seam.

How we work

  1. 01

    Walk the house

Room by room, with you: what each room is for, where the art is, where the switches are now and where your hand already reaches.

  2. 02

    Plan the layers

With your designer or electrician, while it is still on paper: circuits, fixtures, beam angles, keypad locations and finishes.

  3. 03

    Install

Dimmers and keypads by our own crew. Wired where the walls are open, wireless where they are not. No new holes in a finished room.

  4. 04

    Set the scenes

We sit with you in each room at the time of day you use it and set the levels. Then we engrave the keypads to what you chose.

  5. 05

    Tune later

Living in a house changes what you want from it. Adjusting scenes is part of a service plan, and we would rather tune it than have you work around it.

Lights and shades together

The same keypad runs the shades.

Lutron makes the shades too, which is why the Dinner scene can lower the west blinds while it dims the pendants. One press, one plate on the wall, and nothing to explain to a guest.

  • Shades and lights on one Lutron keypad
  • Sun-position schedules for the glass that runs hot
  • Landscape lighting on the same clock as the house
  • All of it inside Savant, with the music and the climate

Your house

Wondering what lighting control would look like, and cost, in your house?

Tell us about the room or the whole house and we will come and look. The calculator gives a planning range before you talk to anyone.

At a glance

Layered light

Ambient, task and accent on separate circuits, so a room can be bright for cleaning and low for dinner without touching a lamp.

Scenes, not switches

Dinner, Film, Morning, Away. Named, engraved, and set once. Guests work it out in a second.

Lutron or Savant

HomeWorks for a whole house, RadioRA 3 for a floor, or Savant lighting where the house already runs on Savant. One keypad either way.

Tunable white

Colour temperature that follows the day, warm in the evening and cool at noon, on a schedule nobody sets.

No new wire

In a finished house, wireless dimmers replace what is on the wall without opening it. Most of our lighting work is retrofit.

Outside, on the clock

Path, drive and entry lights on an astronomic schedule, and the whole exterior to full from the bedside in one press.

With Lutron and Savant

The keypad is the part you touch every day.

A Lutron Sunnata keypad in brushed metal engraved Bright, Entertain, Relax and Nightlight

Sunnata

Engraved, backlit, and available in satin finishes that sit quietly on a painted wall. The keypad most of our RadioRA 3 houses carry, and the one that replaces a bank of five switches.

A hand on a Lutron Palladiom keypad set into patterned wallpaper, engraved Bedroom, Pendant and Lights Off

Palladiom

Glass or architectural metal, no visible screws, flush to the wall. Lights, shades and temperature from one plate, for the houses where the keypad has to match the hardware.

A Lutron Alisse keypad in brushed brass on woven wallpaper, engraved Natural, Sanctuary and Entertain

Alisse

Milled from solid brass and finished by hand, with a halo of colour-tuned light at each button. For a library, a dining room, or anywhere the keypad is part of the millwork.

Four Savant Ascend keypads in bronze, nickel, brass and black, engraved Lights, Relax, Daylight and Shades

Ascend, by Savant

Savant's keypad for the house that runs on Savant: brushed bronze, nickel, brass or black, engraved, with the shades and the scenes for the whole house on the same plate as the lights.

Common questions

What people ask us about lighting control.

What does lighting control actually change day to day?
Fewer decisions. One press sets a room for dinner, for a film, for the morning. Banks of switches become a single keypad with the scenes you actually use, and the house lights itself down at night rather than being walked around and switched off.
Can this be done without rewiring the house?
Usually. Wireless lighting control replaces a bank of switches with no new wire in the room at all, which is why so much of this work happens in finished houses. Where a house is open we hard-wire it, because it is cheaper and neater while the walls are off.
Lutron or Savant lighting?
We specify both and the honest answer depends on the house and what else is in it. Lutron covers the great majority of residential work here and does it exceptionally well, and it sits inside a Savant system without fuss. Savant's own lighting earns its place when the whole house is already on Savant and you want one maker end to end. We will tell you which one your house actually needs.
Will the lights still work if the internet goes down?
Yes. Keypads and dimmers talk to each other locally, so scenes and switches keep working without the internet. What you lose is remote control from an app until the connection is back.
Which keypad should we choose?
The one that matches the rest of the hardware in the room. Sunnata for a painted wall and most houses, Palladiom where the door levers and plates are glass or brushed metal, Alisse where brass is already in the room. We bring samples. Engraving and finish are chosen last, once the scenes are settled, so the keypad says what the room actually does.
What is tunable white, and is it worth it?
Lamps that change colour temperature as well as brightness, so the house is cool and bright in the middle of the day and warm by evening, on a schedule. It is worth it in the rooms you live in all day, the kitchen and the family room, and rarely worth it in a hallway. We will say which rooms earn it in your house.
Can we start with one room?
Yes, and plenty of our lighting work does. A kitchen or a main living space is the usual starting point, and the system extends room by room afterwards without anything being torn out.
Does it need to be programmed again later?
Not routinely, but living in a house changes what you want from it. Adjusting scenes is part of what a service plan covers, and we would rather tune it than have you work around it.
“They carefully outlined the system before starting and suggested using equipment we had when feasible and up to their high standards… It is now almost 2 years since we moved in and we remain happy with everything they did.”

Afterwards

Looked after by the people who installed it.

Our own crew does the work, so the number you call afterwards is the same one you called at the start. Equipment carries its manufacturer's warranty and we handle those claims rather than handing you a phone number. A service plan adds monitoring, next-business-day response and scheduled visits on top.
