Where we work

Smart home integration in Westchester County.

We are a few miles from most of the houses we work in, and the whole business is built around that.

Our showroom sits on North Greenwich Road in Armonk, which puts Bedford, Chappaqua, Katonah and Pound Ridge a short drive away, Mount Kisco and Scarsdale a little further, and the river towns well within reach. That is not a marketing line. It is why a service call happens this week instead of next month, and why we can stop on the way home to look at the one stubborn thing that has been bothering you since March.

Houses here ask different questions of us. A 1920s Tudor in Scarsdale, a shingle-style near the water in Rye, a stone colonial in Bedford and a new build in Armonk each pose their own problem in wire routing, speaker placement and coverage. Plaster and lath swallow wireless signal, which is why Wi-Fi and networking is so often the first thing we fix rather than the last. Stone facades and slate roofs complicate anything mounted outdoors. Century-old millwork does not forgive a careless bracket.

Most of our Westchester projects do not begin as whole-house projects. They begin with the kitchen, or a television that never sounded right, or the third floor where the internet quietly gives up. We are glad to start there. Sonos in a couple of rooms and Lutron keypads replacing a wall of switches is a real project to us, and more often than not it is the one that leads to everything else.

There is a rhythm to how families live in this county, and we program for it rather than for a showroom floor. Houses are used year round. Lower levels do double duty as media rooms and playrooms. Weekends fill with guests who should not need a lesson to turn the music on. Patios and pools carry a long season, so outdoor audio gets far more use here than people expect when they are pricing it out in February.

A good deal of our work still arrives through architects and builders we have known for twenty years, which means we are often on site while the house is still framed, far and away the cheapest and least painful moment to make these decisions. When we are called into a finished house instead, wireless lighting control and patient retrofit routing get you a complete system without opening walls you have just had painted.

And we will tell you what not to buy. If the equipment you already own is good enough, it stays, and the money goes where it actually shows. That conversation is the reason most of our clients have been with us for years rather than for a single install.

From Westchester County

“We have used Westchester AV for several years now and they have been a reliable, extremely knowledgeable resource for bringing our 1950’s MCM into a modern technological state. We’ve done everything from interior CAT wiring to IR hookups to run multiple systems off a single television, etc., and they’ve been terrific.”

Common questions

Questions we get from Westchester County homeowners.

Do you work in my town?
If you are in Westchester County, almost certainly. We are based in Armonk and work regularly in Bedford, Chappaqua, Katonah, Pound Ridge, Mount Kisco, Scarsdale, Rye, Harrison, Purchase, White Plains and the river towns. If you are on the county line, call and ask. The answer is usually yes.
How quickly can you come out for service?
Being local is the whole point. For clients on one of our service plans we hold next-business-day response, and because most of our work is within a twenty-minute drive of the Armonk showroom we can often look at something sooner than that. Distance is the reason service calls drag on with other companies, and it is the problem we do not have.
Can you do this in an older house without tearing up the walls?
Yes, and it is a large share of what we do here. Much of the housing stock in Westchester predates the war, and wireless lighting control now replaces a bank of switches with no new wire in the room at all. Speaker and network cable gets fished through closets, back stairs and whatever the attic allows. We will tell you honestly and up front which rooms are straightforward and which ones are going to be a fight.
Do we have to do the whole house at once?
No, and most of our clients do not. The sensible approach is to plan the whole house, wire for the whole house while it is open if it is open, then finish rooms as budget and timing allow. Nothing needs to be torn out later to add the next piece. Plenty of our Westchester projects started with one room and grew over several years.
Where is your showroom, and is it worth the trip?
We are at 5 N Greenwich Rd in Armonk. It is worth the trip for one reason in particular: CinemaTech seating is on the floor, and sitting in it beats choosing from a swatch card. We can also walk you through control, lighting and shading on the same visit.
