Ridgefield is one of the best-preserved village centres in the state, with 18th and 19th-century houses along Main Street and colonials and newer houses on the ridges around it. About thirty minutes from the showroom up Route 35.
In the old houses the work has to be invisible. Keypads at the existing switches, speakers that paint out, and cable routed through closets, the cellar and the attic rather than through two-hundred-year-old plaster. We have done enough of these to know where a house will let us go.
Outside the village the properties are larger and the problems are distance and weather: a network that reaches the whole house and the outbuildings, and a power plan for the outages that take the ridge down for days in a bad winter.
After that, the usual pleasures done properly: a media room, music through the house, outdoor sound and landscape lighting that suit a house with a view.
