Darien is shingle and colonial houses on the water and in the woods between the Post Road and the Sound, with a steady run of new construction replacing what was there. About twenty-five minutes from the showroom.

The waterfront houses in Tokeneke and Noroton Bay face south and west through glass, and shades on a sun schedule are the first thing. Fabric chosen with your designer so the view stays, motors you cannot hear, and pockets set with the framer if the walls are open.
Darien builds and rebuilds constantly, and the most useful thing we say to anyone mid-project is: call before the walls close. Wire into open framing costs a fraction of fishing it later, and it is the only chance to get speakers, shade pockets and the equipment room where they belong.
After that it is a family's list: a media room on the lower level, music in the kitchen and on the terrace, lighting that gets the house ready for the evening. Anything outdoors near the water is brass and marine-grade, because salt takes everything else in two seasons.
We have worked along this shore since the company began in Rye, and we are honest that Darien is a longer drive than our Westchester towns. On a service plan most faults are fixed from Armonk before anyone drives.

- We are building in Darien. When should the technology people be involved?
- Before the electrical plan is final. Shade pockets, speaker locations, the equipment room and conduit to the pool and terrace have to be on the drawings. We work with your architect and builder from the start.
- What outdoor equipment survives near the Sound?
- Brass and marine-grade. Coastal Source outdoor speakers and landscape fixtures are built for salt and we specify them for every house near the water. Painted aluminium goes white and fails.
- How far away are you?
- About twenty-five minutes from Armonk. On a service plan most problems are fixed remotely; when a visit is needed, it is our own crew.
